Forté team out in force to support Māia Health Foundation’s child and youth mental health project

5th September 2022

Kahurangi has been announced as the name of Canterbury’s new child and youth mental health outpatient facility – and the Forté Health team is delighted to stand alongside Māia to bring it to life.

Forté Health is a proud business partner of the Māia Health Foundation, which held its ‘Feast’ fundraising event on Saturday 3 September.

More than $300,000 was raised at Feast – the most Māia Health Foundation has ever raised at a single event. The funds will go towards the creation of Kahurangi - a modern, fit-for-purpose mental health outpatient facility for children and young people in Canterbury. Māia Health Foundation has committed to raising $6 million for the new facility, which was gifted its name by Ngāi Tūāhuriri. The name Kahurangi means “blue skies” and is inspired by hope.

Forté Health CEO Rachel Hillyer says seeing the Canterbury community come together to support the health and wellbeing of our community’s young people was inspiring.

“To have a truly healthy community we need more than just a great hospital or a talented health workforce – we need to join forces as a community. By putting our hearts and minds together we can change the course of our future by making a real difference where our health system needs it the most.

“We’re delighted to partner with Māia Health Foundation and be part of their vision to take Canterbury’s health system from good to great,” says Rachel.

Thanks to the success of ‘Feast’, Māia Health Foundation now has $3.5 of the $6 million it needs for Kahurangi.

“It’s thanks to organisations like Forté Health that we are here today. Forté and its people have supported Māia’s vision to take our health system from good to great since day one, believing in what we set out to achieve and walking alongside us to get there and for that, we are enormously grateful,” says Māia Chief Executive Michael Flatman.
