Forté Health wins ANZ Sustainability Award for Procurement Innovation 

Forté Health has won Best Sustainability Project of the Year Award at the 2026 Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) ANZ Excellence in Procurement & Supply Awards for its Sustainability Custom Procedure Pack (CPP) Initiative.  

The win from CIPS, a global membership organisation representing more than 200,000 members across more than 150 countries that sets the standard for the profession, was announced at a special event in Adelaide. It recognises Forté Health’s excellence in delivering outstanding sustainability outcomes through procurement and supply chain innovation.  

Forté Health's initiative was recognised for achieving measurable environmental, operational, governance and clinical improvements through a transformative procurement-led approach. 

"This recognition is a testament to the dedication, collaboration and innovation of our teams across the organisation," said Forté Health’s CEO Michael Woodhouse.  

"To receive this level of recognition on an international stage amongst strong competition is an outstanding achievement and reflects our commitment to delivering better outcomes for our patients, our people and the environment." 

The award-winning initiative was led by Forté Health’s Inventory Manager Karen Morris and Anaesthetic Technician/Registered Nurse Tanya Power, who undertook the first comprehensive review of Forté Health's custom procedure packs in more than a decade. 

Used extensively throughout operating theatres, the organisation's 25 custom procedure packs are critical to supporting surgical procedures. Karen and Tanya set out to create a more sustainable, clinically effective and resilient supply model while maintaining the highest standards of patient care. 

Working closely with clinical teams, procurement specialists, quality teams and new supplier partner Multigate NZ, the project challenged long-established processes and reimagined how procedure packs are sourced, managed and continuously improved. 

Since implementation, the initiative has already delivered significant and measurable outcomes across the organisation. These include: 

• A quantified roadmap for reducing the environmental impact of custom procedure packs 
• An estimated reduction of 2,456kgCO₂e across the CPP portfolio through agreed optimisation initiatives 
• A 36% improvement in inventory turnover, reflecting improved forecasting, lower stock holdings and increased efficiency 
• Greater supply chain reliability through local production and structured demand planning 

As Forté Health continues its sustainability journey, the organisation remains committed to finding innovative ways to deliver clinical excellence while reducing environmental impact and strengthening healthcare outcomes for future generations. 

The project has also been named as a finalist in the 2026 NZ Private Surgical Hospitals Association (NZPSHA) Awards in the Sustainability category, with winners to be revealed on 24 September 2026.
